Physician, patient, family member and friend: My journey through the health care system

In this session Dr. Marks will share her multiple views of health care to help you better understand how to work with the health care system, maintain your resilience, and obtain the care you need. 

Dr. Meridith Marks is an Assistant Dean and the Director of the Academy for Innovation in Medical Education (AIME), Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. 

She is also a physician, specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. At The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Center she treats patients with limb amputations due to injury and/or illness. In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Marks is highly regarded as an educator, having received multiple teaching and education awards both locally and nationally.

Patients, students and colleagues have all recognized Dr. Marks’ commitment in helping them achieve their full potential. This past year Dr. Marks has faced her own challenges when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Her observations and experiences as a patient provide her with another view of life and the health care system - A view that has refined her insights as an individual, a physician, and an educator.
