Having a good healthy stack of 'thanks but no thanks' letters is part of the writing process. Don't let the fear of rejection stand in the way of your dreams. Lorna Schultz Nicholson will tell you how she went for her dream, and survived a lot of big fat NO's to survive and come out on top with an even bigger YES. Rejection or not, "Just Say Yes!" Lorna Schultz Nicholson grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario, and as a child she loved to read, write, and play sports. Athletics became her focus so she went to the University of Victoria and graduated with a B.Sc. in Human Performance. With her degree, she worked as the Fitness and Recreation Coordinator at UVic where she also coached rowing. She started with the Women’s Novice team and moved up to be assistant coach for the Men’s Varsity Team. Her writing resurfaced in the media arena where she was co-host for an aerobic television show in Victoria. Think eighties and leg-warmers. After moving to Ottawa, she took on the job of health and lifestyles reporter for a news show and researcher for a sports show, Donohue’s Legends, at CJOH Television. Finally, she hosted and produced her own radio show, Family Time, in Ottawa. Okay, next stop, Calgary. She did a brief stint at writing magazine articles and a sports column. Plus a stint as a community events reporter for QR 77, a local Calgary radio station. But really, she wanted to write fiction full-time and stay home with her three amazing children. Everything in her life, led her to this point. And all her jobs and experiences are fuel for her writing. To date she has published eight children’s sports novels, two non-fiction record books and a mystery novel. She currently has contracts to write more books and her goal is to never retire because she loves what she does. Her website is www.lornashultznicholson.com |
